Acer notebooks
Acer has long been a leading manufacturer of notebook computers. Their current offerings include three standard notebooks - the TravelMate, the Aspire, and the Extensa - and one model known as a "netbook," the Aspire One series.
Have Notebook, Will TravelMate
Acer's TravelMate line of notebooks are designed for the portability and durability needed by the frequent traveler. The lightest model, the TravelMate 6293, weighs in at less than 2 kg with the 6 cell Li-ion battery pack. Many TravelMate notebooks come with an integrated Bio-Protection fingerprint reader, shock-resistant hard drives, and integrated webcams. Security features are a key feature on all TravelMate notebooks, emphasizing the increased need for security faced by those who travel with their computers. They offer the options of a Blu-Ray Disc drive / DVD-Super Multi drive, faster NVIDIA or Radeon video chips, and screen sizes from 15.4" to 17".
Aspire to a Better Notebook
The Aspire notebook are designed with the home consumer or small business operator in mind. The graphics cards, surround sound audio support and larger displays make it a more robust choice for movie viewing or game playing. Some Acer aspire notebooks, such as the 8730G, offer optional Blu-Ray Disc drives, all digital HDMI connectivity, and screen sizes up to 18.4". There's even room for two hard disk drives if the included 320Gb to 500 Gb drives are not large enough.
Extensa for the Progressive Professional
Acer's Extensa line is where performance and price meet. These notebooks rely on integrated graphics and sound rather than additional graphics cards, use DDR2 memory for their RAM, and feature more moderately sized hard drives for owners more interested in office work then video processing, or maintaining a picture and music library. Screen sizes range from 14.1" to 15.4", depending on the chosen model.
Aspire One for True Portability
The Aspire One line was created by Acer to provide a truly compact and mobile notebook computing experience. With a 10.1" screen, new Intel Atom processor, 6-hour battery life, and weight well below 1.4 kg even with the largest battery pack, the Aspire One is designed for those who need computing power in a compact form. Acer classifies the Aspire One computer as a "netbook," an intermediate step between handheld PDAs and larger notebooks like the Aspire.
